WWA Wildlife Report - November 2000

High winds and rain ensured that all the leaves had fallen from the deciduous trees on site by the end of November. The kingcups were still flowering all month and green flower spikes appeared on the Helleborus foetidus towards the end of the month.

Many birds continued to visit the site - goldfinches and greenfinches, tits (including long-tailed), wren dunnock, sparrows, a crow with a broken leg, jays and blackbirds. On the mere we had plenty of mallard (40 on 5 November), coot and moorhen. The kingfisher was heard but not seen and the heron was vocal - currently at the fishing club.
