WWA Wildlife Report - March 2000

Spring flowers were everywhere this month. The last of the snowdrops were around at the beginning of March and then the daffodils came into full bloom covering the site in creams and yellows. Celandines, primroses, violets, kingcups and two tiny anemone all flowered in March.

The ducks and coots built nests this month and Oscar and Olive (our pair of swans) have been necking, displaying and patrolling. They have also taken vegetation to last years nest site and a practice nest was evident by mid March. However, towards the end of the month the swans were absent, although had been sighted on the nearby angling club.

Birds sighted in march included chaffinches, goldfinches, greenfinches, wrens, robins, assorted tits, kingfisher, jays and a kestrel. The songbirds have been singing there hearts out on sunny days!

The female muntjac was spotted towards the end of the month.
