A habitat created as a wood and glade area

This is the only short grass area on the site, apart from the mown paths, and is mown no shorter than 3 inches on an as-and-when basis to simulate cropping by animals. It is surrounded and interspersed with native trees and shrubs which have had nine years to grow to quite a large size. One side is maintained as a hedgerow, the rest is allowed to grow. It shelters songbirds, which nest in the boxes and hedge, and baby newts and frogs, which favour the grass. It is bordered on one side by the River Ver and on the other two by allotments, all of which are habitats in their own right.
