Brownlees' Russet

Dessert

UK; introduced c.1848 by William Brownlees, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
Intense sweet-sharp taste of acid or fruit drops, but sweeter than Nonpareil; quite juicy. Victorians prized it or the late dessert and Edwardians also valued its blossom - deep cermine buds opening to pink.
