The Bog

Marsh and pond habitat

This area is boggy, with a narrow channel of water running through it, and a pond halfway along its length. It is particularly valuable as a nursery for small fish, amphibians and aquatic insects. It provides a sheltered nesting site for waterbirds and warblers.

The marsh is, however, very vulnerable to drying, and is kept wet by a Winter maintenance regime of cutting very narrow channels across it.
